Biography

Georges Bettan, Artist

Born in 1946 in Morocco, Georges Bettan of ReplicArt developed an early interest in art. With a school bag bursting with coloring pencils and sketching paper, Bettan first dreamt of being a cartoonist. Before long, his love of comic books evolved into a love of fine art—Diego Riviera, Paul Gaugin, Vincent Van Gogh, and the French Impressionists.

As he aged and his life took shape, he continued to view the world through his creative lens and study the masters, but his life left little room for the serious pursuit of fine art. Obligations tampered his creative output, but his passion never ceased, and in 2001 he returned to painting. Since then, Bettan’s output has been considerable. Bettan has amassed a body of original work that synthesizes all his years of deep study and observing into something unique.

A Keen Eye for Art

Bettan takes a dual approach to painting. There are some works where he seems to tackle the everyday from a unique perspective or amplify key elements. Other works see Bettan striving to capture the immensity of his subject—and with great success. No matter the subject, Bettan always manages to uncover something special during the creative process. It is this keen ability for wonder and representation that shows audiences that great art comes from deep contemplation.

Homage to Masters, Original Artworks, and more

There is no denying that every artist is the sum of their influences. Picasso borrowed from El Greco and drew inspiration from Velazquez. Henri Matisse credits Cezanne, and Cezanne himself dedicated endless hours to studying Caravaggio. As for Bettan, his work draws inspiration from the Cubists, as well as the Symbolists and Impressionists. These inspirations can be seen in his unique originals, where he paints his subjects with the touch of masters from generations’ past. These diverse influences are also heavily foregrounded in his artful homage works.
